Caddell was "interviewed" by Institute Director Bill Lacy about the current situation in Washington, how politics is portrayed in popular media, and his days polling for former president Jimmy Carter. On Wednesday afternoon, April 8, 2009, the community joined T. Boone Pickens at the Institute for a discussion about a nationwide sustainable energy plan, The Pickens Plan. Introductions were made by former Senator Bob Dole and by Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS) at the meeting.

between the Dole Institute & Baghdad

With the war in Iraq entering its sixth year and President Obama promising to end combat operations in Iraq by 2010 many questions remain unanswered. This two-part teleconference will answer some of those questions.
PART I of the program will be a public discussion between regional college students here and students in Iraq (see program handout for names) about issues that concern young people on a global level, including the future of their nations and their world.
PART II of the program will be an interview by Bill Lacy of the following decision makers in Baghdad: Major General Qassim Atta, military spokesman for the Government of Iraq; Major General David Perkins, Director of Strategic Effects for the USA multi-national force in Iraq;
Dr. Ali al-Dabbaugh, spokesman for the Government of Iraq; and, U.S. Ambassador Adam Ereli in Iraq . This event is co-sponsored by the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications, the Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth and the Dole Institute of Politics.

Dole Institute Associate Director Jonathan Earle interviewed three "insiders" from President Jimmy Carter’s '76 Campaign & White House staff.
Jody Powell, Carter’s White House press secretary and confidant was featured on the cover of Time magazine in 1977 as one of “the President’s Boys” and is currently CEO of the public relations firm Powell Tate. Scott Burnett, director of the Presidential Speakers Bureau is the Dole Institute’s spring fellow and legislative chairman of the Jackson County, Missouri, legislature. Tim Kraft, key to Carter's Iowa and Pennsylvania primary wins in 1976, served as Carter's White House political liason. press release

Max Sherman is Professor Emeritus and former Dean of the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs. He is editor of a collection of Jordan’s most memorable speeches, “Barbara Jordan: Speaking the Truth with Eloquent Thunder” (Feb '07). As a friend and colleague of Jordan's for 25 years, both in the Texas Senate and at the LBJ School, Sherman knew the former Congresswoman well. He will discuss the context of who she was and why she was important, and the extent to which her message is still relevant in the 21st century. Barbara Jordan was the first African-American woman from the South to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives. A book signing followed the lecture.
