Study Groups
Some of our most refreshing events are weekly study groups at the Dole Institute. Hosted by Dole Fellows, each weekly discussion focuses on specific political topic and features an expert in that field. These events are oriented toward KU students, but are open to the public.
Despite the name, Dole Institute study groups don’t require much studying. These small discussion groups do provide tons of hands-on knowledge and direct interaction with experts.
Students: Dole Institute study groups are the best networking opportunities out there! We can’t count the number of students who have found jobs or internships with the help of our study group guests or Dole Fellows.
Don’t know much about this week’s topic? No worries. Have to miss one week? No problem. Can’t handle any more homework? Us neither.
We don’t take attendance, require outside reading or prior knowledge of the topic. How great is that? These are no-stress opportunities! What are you waiting for?

Help Wanted: Landing that Job in Washington
Meets Tuesdays at 4 p.m.
February 9, 16, 23, March 2, 9, 23, 30
Don’t let national unemployment figures get you down. There are jobs waiting for you in D.C., and Wilma Goldstein will show you how to land the right gig in Washington.
Goldstein has had a long career in management, political consulting, survey research, public relations, and political campaigns and associations. She has landed the right job many times, and occasionally, the not-so-right job. Most recently, Goldstein worked as a project manager for the Hawthorn Group, an international public relations firm.
Surviving in 2010: Blue Incumbents in Red Districts
Meets Wednesdays at 4 p.m.
February 24, March 3, 10, 24, 31, April 7, 14
Midterm election time is here! With America’s hot-cold response to the breadth of Washington’s work this past year, we’re wondering which seated Congressional folks are going to get a pink slip this November. David Strauss will help us make predictions on just that.
Strauss has worked in both the executive and legislative branches of federal government. Currently, he serves as Chairman of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation Advisory Committee, a position he was appointed to by Pres. Obama in July 2009.
