About the Scholarship Program

Applications for the 2012 one-year scholarships are now available HERE. Deadline is March 9, 2012.

The Senator Robert J. Dole Public Service Scholarship Program recognizes Kansas high school students who have demonstrated leadership and community involvement. Drawing upon the spirit and experience of Senator Bob Dole's career, the Dole Institute emphasizes public service by helping students to understand the challenges and rewards of public life.

Each $1000 Dole 2011 scholarship is for one year only and is not renewable. It is to be used at KU, Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University, Kansas State University, Pittsburg State University, Wichita State University or Washburn University. The 60 scholarships are distributed among the state's four congressional districts to ensure the broadest statewide participation.

The Dole scholarship program began in 2005 with a federal grant that funded 40 scholarships per year. In 2007, the Dole Institute received a second federal grant and awarded 128 scholarships, nearly three times the number of scholarships as in each of the previous two years. The 2011 grant is for 60 scholarships.
